Glass restoration for etched and hazed windows

When a normal clean leaves the haze behind, the damage is in the glass itself. Restoration works the surface back to clear — usually far cheaper than replacing large or custom units.

What restoration fixes

Restoration is for glass that is damaged, not just dirty.

  • Salt etching.Shore glass that has gone seasons without cleaning ends up with salt bonded into the surface — a permanent-looking haze, worst on ocean-facing windows and glass railings.
  • Long-term hard water.Sprinkler and well-water rings that have sat for years etch in. Normal hard water stain removal can’t reach them.
  • Construction damage.Mortar, stucco, concrete and paint left to cure on glass during building or renovation eat into the surface.
  • Runoff stains.Oxidation and mineral runoff from brick, stone, metal frames and roofing that streaks down the glass.

How a restoration job runs

Every restoration starts with a look and a test, because what’s possible depends on the glass and the damage.

01

Inspect every pane

We walk the glass and note the damage, the glass type and any coatings, so you get a quote based on what’s actually there.

02

Test patch

A small area is restored first, so you see the result before committing to the whole job.

03

Restore the surface

The glass is worked back with professional restoration compounds and polishing, a section at a time, until the haze is gone or as close as the glass allows.

04

Clean and protect

Pure-water rinse, then RainGlide Technology so the glass stays clear. A cleaning plan keeps it from happening again.

I couldn’t be happier with the service! From the initial quote to the finished job, everything was handled professionally and efficiently. Showed up right on time, was courteous and respectful of my property, and left every window streak-free and sparkling — even the tricky second-story ones I usually dread dealing with. Pricing was fair and transparent, with no surprise fees. I’ll definitely be booking again for regular maintenance. Five stars, no hesitation!

Stratus Cleaning was fantastic. Our windows were covered in salt & dirt & now they sparkle! They were able to reach windows all of the way to the 3rd floor. I would highly recommend Stratus.

Glass restoration: questions

Is restoration cheaper than replacing the glass?

On large, custom or hard-to-reach units, usually by a wide margin, especially when you count removal and installation. On small standard windows replacement can sometimes make more sense, and we’ll tell you if so.

Can all damage be restored?

No. Light to moderate etching and hazing usually restores well. Deep scratches, chips and damage to coated glass may not. The test patch shows you before you pay for the full job.

How much does glass restoration cost?

It’s quoted after an inspection and a test, because it depends on the number of panes, the size of the glass and how deep the damage goes.

What about tempered or coated glass?

Some coated and tempered glass can’t be polished without risk. We check the glass type during the inspection and won’t touch anything we can’t restore safely.

How do I keep it from happening again?

Regular cleaning. On ocean-facing glass that means every three to four months. A window cleaning plan costs far less than restoring glass twice.
