Where the spots come from
Hard water stains are minerals — calcium and magnesium — left behind when water dries on glass. Rain doesn’t remove them; it adds to them.
- Sprinklers.The most common cause in South Jersey. Irrigation hits the lower windows every morning and every pass leaves another ring.
- Well water and pool splash.Homes on well water, and glass near pools and hot tubs, build up deposits fast.
- Old soap residue.Cleaning with soap and tap water leaves a film that rain reactivates and dries into spots. Pure water leaves nothing behind.
- Salt at the shore.Salt film behaves like hard water and, left for seasons, etches the surface. See shore window cleaning.
How we take it off
We test before we promise, because how far the minerals have bonded decides what’s possible.
Remove the minerals
Fresh and moderate deposits are dissolved and lifted with a mineral remover worked into the glass by hand, then neutralised.
Rinse with pure water
A deionized water rinse takes away everything that’s left, so the glass dries clear with no new spots.
Seal it
RainGlide Technology goes on last so water beads and runs off. Fix the sprinkler angle and the spots stop coming back.

Hard water stain removal: questions
Can every hard water stain be removed?
No, and anyone who says otherwise hasn’t seen your glass. Fresh deposits come off completely. Stains that have sat for years can etch into the surface and need glass restoration, which costs more and doesn’t always fully work. We test first.
How much does hard water stain removal cost?
It depends on how many panes are affected and how bad the buildup is. It’s priced separately from a standard clean, and we can quote both together. Send the address and a close-up photo of the worst window.
How do I stop the spots coming back?
Redirect sprinklers away from the glass, and keep the windows on a cleaning schedule so minerals never get time to bond. RainGlide Technology helps water run off instead of drying in place.
Will it damage my windows?
Not when it’s done properly. We test on a small area first and use pure water to rinse, with no abrasive scraping on coated or tinted glass.
Do you do shower glass?
This service is for windows and exterior glass. Glass railings, sliders and storefronts are included.
